Syrah - The future for Greek wineries?

The wine critics from Germany were very much taken taken by Greek wines made from Syrah at our large tasting event in Hamburg. Mario Scheuermann wrote http://weinreporter.posterous.com/rote-favoriten (link in German) that Greece might become the third country after Australia and South Africa where Syrah could be successfully established. Certainly the growers' interest in this variety has accelerated over the the last few years, and it might well prove right that Syrah is better suited to the Greek vineyards than Bordeaux varieties. It also makes an excellent blending partner for Xinomavro. I am sure that Syrah wines from Greece will make headlines in the years to come, personally I have tasted many very concentrated wines, taking the reds to a new level of sophistication. It is very satisfying to see a wine critic mentioning Greece alongside Australia and South Africa, watch this space!
